Nike SB Dunk Lobster: the collaboration between Concepts and Nike SB
The Nike SB Dunk Lobster was born from the collaboration between Concepts and Nike Skateboarding and represents one of the most recognizable sagas in the history of the SB Dunk.
The project debuted in 2008 with the Red Lobster, inspired by one of New England’s most iconic symbols. Since that first release, Concepts has built a visual language that has become instantly recognizable: suede in different shades, seafood-inspired details, gingham linings, and, above all, the characteristic elastic band on the toe box that recalls the bands used on lobster claws.
Over the years, the series has evolved through new colorways, special packaging, and extremely limited versions, becoming one of the most important chapters in the history of the Nike SB Dunk.
Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Green, Orange, and White Lobster
The Nike SB Dunk Lobster family includes seven main colorways, developed at different stages of the collaboration between Concepts and Nike SB.
The Red Lobster inaugurated the saga in 2008, followed by the Blue and the very rare Yellow Lobster in 2009. Almost ten years later, the Purple and Green arrived, while in 2022, the Orange Lobster brought the project back to the center of contemporary sneaker culture.
Completing the family is the White Lobster, a Friends & Family version produced in extremely limited quantities.
Each release interprets the same concept through different colors and details, while maintaining the elements that allow a Lobster to be instantly recognized.
Why are the Nike SB Dunk Lobster so recognizable?
The success of the Lobster does not depend solely on the colorways.
From the very first release, Concepts built a consistent identity that involves the entire sneaker. The elastic band on the toe box recalls the bands used to keep lobster claws closed, while the gingham lining evokes the imagery of New England seafood restaurants.
Even the different shades used on the uppers and the speckled details reflect the natural chromatic variations of the crustaceans.
This set of references has allowed the collaboration to maintain its identity even when transitioning from red to blue, from purple to green, and up to orange and white.
Special Box, Friends & Family, and rare Nike Lobsters
Packaging has always been an important part of the Concepts Lobster universe.
Several releases were accompanied by Special Boxes and accessories developed specifically for the project, turning the packaging and additional items into an integral part of the collecting experience.
Versions like the Yellow Lobster and White Lobster are linked to the Friends & Family circuit and represent some of the most difficult-to-find models in the series.
The Red and Blue now have several years of history behind them, while the Purple, Green, and Orange belong to more recent generations of the collaboration. Condition, the presence of the original box, accessories, and packaging can therefore significantly impact the rarity and value of a single pair.
The most exclusive versions of the family are also included in the Sneakers Grail selection, dedicated to some of the rarest sneakers in the ResellZone catalog.
